Managing Director Banco is a leader in the business of engine cooling and engine sealing systems in India. The Company has sales of ~ 20,000 million INR ( 280 million US$ )with three plants in India and a subsidiary in Europe. With a mandate to drive business growth, while building robust processes, the following were the thrust areas during my leadership there.
Energized the organization and instilled customer centricity to achieve >20% growth, in pre covid years - across OEM, Aftermarket and Exports businesses.
Strengthened Key Account business relationship leveraging the company’s bespoke engineering capabilities. Key Accounts like Cummins, JCB, Mahindra & Mahindra recognized and awarded the company for being their Best Development Partner.
Expanded and won profitable projects in global market with key accounts like Caterpillar, JCB, John Deere, BMW, CNH, Manitou, DAF, Doosan , besides expanding aftermarket presence in US market.
Won maiden projects in EV cooling module business from European and Indian clients . Led the company’s foray in colling solutions for electric locomotives. This market success - led to the company setting up a subsidiary to design, develop and deliver new energy cooling solutions
Strengthened core business processes such as Sales Funnel and Business Development Process, Pricing Optimization Process, Production Planning and Order Management Processes, Distribution Management Process etc.

FAG Bearings India Ltd, (Schaeffler India) 2009-2017
I worked with FAG Bearings India Ltd. (now Schaeffler India) for more than 3 decades during which I moved across various roles and functions before taking over as the company’s Managing Director and CEO during the period 2009-2017.
Schaeffler India is a member of Germany’s Schaeffler Group (sales > 14 billion Euro). In India , FAG is the second largest bearing company with sales of approx. 1800 crores/ 270 million
US$ ( FY 2016/17) with industry leading profitability .
CEO role, provided me with an opportunity to conceptualize and vigorously implement a robust strategy for profitable and sustainable growth while building up a globally competitive, future ready organization.
Share Price and Market capitalization of FAG Bearings increased approx. 11 times during my tenure as Managing Director. BSE index grew by < 2 times during the period, this is an indicator of stakeholders’ approval of solidity of strategy followed by the company, its management quality and the results achieved,
Implementing a balanced approach between high volume automotive markets and complex industrial markets; realized compounded sales growth of > 12% per year ( twice the market growth ) , while profits saw average compounded increase of > 17% per year. These results were achieved against the backdrop of fluctuating market demand and growing global competition in the industry.
Guided Investment of over 100 million USD towards systematic expansion of manufacturing footprint to make the company future ready. The investments made during my leadership period of 8 years exceeded the investments made by the company in the previous 5 decades. These investments included setting up of technologically advanced greenfield plant at Salvi, Vadodara which achieved globally benchmarked level of quality, and productivity
By focusing on developing competent local manufacturing and supply chain ,
the company achieved unbeatable quality and cost leadership in core product groups ( Cylindrical Roller Bearings and Ball Bearings ) within the entire Schaeffler group worldwide. This paved way for fast growth in the profitable export business for the company.
With the goal of achieving self-sufficiency in Engineering capabilities
,strategized and built Global Competence Centre in India- with over 50 Engineers to deliver sector and product specific cutting-edge engineering competence. This competence provided decisive advantage to the company in winning engineering led product and service projects at premium pricing.
Leveraging extensive global networking and engineering led strategy , successfully won long term, high value business contract with key accounts such as ZF, Alstom, GE, Bombardier, Suzlon, Siemens, Suzuki , TVS, Indian Railways, JSW to name a few.
Led organizational renewal process by aligning organizational and personal development. Built strong leadership teams, emphasized continuous competence development at all levels, corrected toxic legacy habits and encouraged teamwork in a high-performance culture.
As an Executive Member of Schaeffler Asia Pacific Management Council, ensured quality networking within the global leadership team.
Drove Lean , continuous improvement initiatives across the organization to realize two-fold increase in productivity while launching aggressive cost reduction drive to beat Chinese competition

During this period , I led company’s Sales . Marketing , Application Engineering and Product Management Teams for OEM and Aftermarket Business and accelerated profitable growth with focus on the following deliverables.
Extensive business development in high volume mobility sectors - Passenger Cars, 2-Wheeler, Tractors and Trucks by positioning as ‘preferred development partners of key clients.
Implemented Focus Market approach , strengthened application engineering capabilities and cooperation with key accounts in Industrial market to grow profitable business in Railways, Wind Energy, Power Transmission , Heavy Industries and Production Machinery.
Increased share in profitable aftermarket by expanding Channel Reach, and expanding rural network with relationship program covering over 20,000 touch points
Promoted TCO (total cost of ownership) approach and service business models to grow and ring fence MRO business in Steel, Cement, Paper, and Production Machinery sectors

In this role, I spearheaded the company’s direct OEM business and developed strong partnerships with the company’s key accounts
Led business and product development in high volume mobility sectors. Nurtured and grew businesses with key accounts like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Volvo Eicher, Force Motors Hero, Bajaj, Honda, TVS, Yamaha, TAFE, John Deere, CNH, Escorts, besides tier 1 suppliers.
Successfully introduced technologically advanced 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation – integrated passenger Car Wheel set bearing systems , replacing conventional standard bearings for the application. Won large contracts from Maruti Suzuki and other global players to establish the company’s leadership in passenger car
business.
Developed strong connect with customers’ R&D Design and Development teams to become a development partner of choice

In my role as Marketing Services Manager, I redesigned and implemented integrated business and marketing processes and aligned those with the group’s global processes.
Developed globally aligned processes for Market Analysis , Demand Planning, Shop loading, Order Management, Opportunity management, Application engineering, Product development, Pricing, Customer Service, and Marketing communication.
These initiatives laid strong foundation for strategy driven, customer centric and result focused Sales organization
During the period, I was also a lead of 3-member team that- together with a global consultancy firm - advised the Board on a) Product / Market / Operations Redesign leading to 30% downsizing b) and successfully implemented Business Process Re-Engineering and SAP implementation.
